Acupressure vs Laser Acupuncture

Acupuncture treatments are carried out by either a qualified acupuncturist or practitioner, or by a person under their care who has received training in acupuncture at the Dubai acupuncture clinics. Most acupuncturists use actual needles inserted into the skin. The insertion of actual needles into the skin is considered one of the most dangerous aspects of acupuncture and can result in severe side effects, including infection and the injection of the needle into a sensitive area, such as the eye, where there is a high risk of contracting an infection.

Most practitioners use less potent than are used in acupuncture and employ methods to prevent or reduce side effects. However, there are still some who criticize the use of needles, arguing that it lacks scientific proof of effectiveness and that there is little proof that acupuncture actually works.

The two major types of acupuncture are:

  • acupressure
  • laser acupuncture

What is Acupressure?

You can find at the physiotherapy center in Dubai. Acupressure involves the use of certain oils, pressure, or other forms of energy to target and stimulate the specific points along the meridian, or “womb” of the body. The point is then treated by applying pressure to the point or holding the hands over it. Some of the more common types of acupressure include the Swedish method, Thai, and Samoan styles.

What is Laser Acupuncture?

Laser acupuncture is the exact opposite of acupressure. Instead of using massage, heat, or any form of subtle energy to target the problematic areas, lasers are used to heat the meridian points to make them more receptive to stimulation.

Some of the more popular laser treatments are the PCA or Photodynamic Therapy, and the TENS or Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. These treatments are more effective than massage and have shown better results than the Swedish method. Some patients have described the pain as being similar to being over-stimulated with a static bolt of electricity!

Research on Acupuncture:

  1. There has not been enough scientific research done to determine whether acupuncture therapy works for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), fibromyalgia, or chronic pain.
  2. Even though these ailments are said to be the result of ailments stemming from the “aura” or “energy” that surrounds a person, it’s hard to say without further research what effect acupuncture might have.

For some, the relief of pain is just as important as the actual treatment itself. For others, relief of symptoms is all that matters. In either case, it’s a personal choice and the final decision must be made by you and your doctor based on your individual needs.
